The Story

My Sacred Story

Rooted in light, guided by intention, and dedicated to helping others shine

Where it all began

Lumina was born from a love of bringing people together through movement, connection, and wellbeing.

The word ‘Lumina’ comes from the Latin word ‘illuminate’ or ‘light’ – and represents the belief that everyone has a light within them. We may go through seasons of darkness, where we lose our connection to our inner light. Sometimes all we need is a change of environment, connection, a space to take a breath, movement, laughter, nature. Lumina is about illuminating the path back to your true self.

In a world that often feels busy, demanding, and constantly switched on, I wanted to create spaces where people could slow down, pause and reflect, and reconnect with themselves and others. Through yoga, I’ve witnessed the incredible power of community first hand, the way strangers become friends, support one another, and leave feeling lighter, calmer, and more connected than when they arrived.

At Lumina, the intention is to create welcoming experiences that nourish the mind, body, and soul. Whether through yoga, sound healing, nature, or meaningful connection, I believe everyone deserves moments of rest, renewal, and the chance to reconnect with their inner light.

Because when we take time to care for ourselves, we return to our lives feeling more grounded, balanced, and able to shine brightly in the world around us.

Welcome to Lumina.

“I created Lumina as a space to feel connected, held and supported. You are welcome here”

Hi I’m Lizzie! I truly believe that yoga finds you when you need it the most. I was first introduced to yoga at a time when I was struggling mentally, and my friend invited me to try a yoga studio she had been attending. I remember the first time I entered the studio, nervous but open to see what yoga was all about. The studio was so calming, the smell of incense opened my senses, and the energy of the room was so welcoming. I had a ‘I’m meant to be here’ feeling. I attended this studio everyday, and could feel it was having a positive effect on me. I tried all the different styles; Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Rocket, Restorative, Yin, Meditation. I felt this was the time the yoga seed had been planted.

Fast forward a few years to 2020, after my first travel experience was cut short due to COVID, I spent every single day practicing yoga. Like most of us during that time, we tried to find things that kept us going through a challenging time. Yoga was mine. Yoga allowed me to find peace even when chaos was surrounding me, it offered me moments to connect back to myself, and to also understand myself on a deeper level; it was then that I knew yoga was so much more than a physical practice.

It was during this time that I knew that this is something I felt called to share with others, if this is how yoga makes me feel, I want others to experience this too! I then completed my 200 hour teacher training in 2021/2022 and started teaching straight after. Following this, I took 10 months out to travel Australia, Indonesia & South East Asia and had the experience of teaching in studios & hostels in Australia & Thailand on my travels.

In 2024 I travelled to India to complete my 300 hour advanced yoga teacher training and Level 3 sound healing diploma. To study in India, the birthplace of yoga, was a dream of mine and it was a magical experience. India is a place that can’t be described, only experienced. It’s raw, it’s real, it’s chaotic, colourful, noisy, sensory overload, but it makes you feel alive, and the experiences and feelings stay in your heart forever. My travels & all the incredible teachers I have met around the world have inspired me and shaped me into the yoga teacher I am today.

Visiting different cultures and learning from locals, has opened my mind and my heart more than I could have ever imagined. I am passionate about sharing all that I have learned, and continue to learn, with anyone that attends my classes. There is a reason that you are here, and it is because your yoga journey has either already began or is about to. Yoga has changed my life in many ways, and it can do the same for you too.

Thank you for being here, and I hope to see you on the mat. Lizzie x
